They’re trying to be light-handed with this story with funny words and breezy prose but it is a subject that Roni and I have been deeply troubled by and aware of for a very long time. The unintended consequences of being a bunch of ignorant assholes are really going to be a bitch:

Smith said that feral hogs are established in 40–45 US states and have spread rapidly in the past three decades because hunters seeking convenient sport have trapped, transported and released them in new areas, only for the populations to migrate and spiral out of control. “Before you know it you’re up to your neck in pigs,” he said. “In Alabama we have pigs which are creeping into people’s backyards.”

“Hunters.” Yeah. Great, white hunters, seeking convenient “sport.” Nice going, Cooter. Good thing they took Darwin out of your schools, I mean, after all, you’re doing such a good job of managing things as it is why load you down with useless knowledge?

Welcome to the future, where razorback hogs the size of VW bugs can cozy up to your shack at night, bust through the walls and take your children.
